STEPHEN D. PALMER

Associate

Steve is an attorney in our Birmingham, AL office where his practice focuses solely on workers’ compensation litigation defense. He regularly writes articles pertaining to current issues in workers’ compensation law and is an active member and leader in multiple professional organizations around the state.

After graduating from Birmingham-Southern College, magna cum laude and being inducted into the historic Phi Beta Kappa academic society, he went to Duke University, as one of only eight “Duke Scholars,” where he earned his master's in theology, magna cum laude. After finishing his master's degree, he worked in a variety of ministry settings throughout the Southeast and discovered a creative pugnaciousness for solving people’s problems. As an attorney, he strives to put these same talents into practice in the concrete domain of the law, and his experience and success in ministry have given him a strong foundation for public oral argument, confidence in research and writing, and a zeal for justice.

After leaving the ministry, Steve earned his juris doctor from the University of Alabama School of Law, where he was a Senior Editor for the Journal of Law and Psychology, participated in the school’s moot court competition, was awarded best papers in his Entrepreneurship and Insurance Law courses, clerked for a United State District Court Judge, clerked for the Alabama Attorney General’s Office, clerked for an Alabama Circuit Court Judge, clerked for the Tuscaloosa District Attorney’s Office, and tried his first case through the School’s Civil Law Clinic as third year student.

In his free time, Steve enjoys spending time with his wife and three young children, doing projects around his house, listening to audio books while walking the family dog, and cheering for the Crimson Tide.
